NAMI In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness

What is In Our Own Voice?

The In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness presentation provides an example of recovery from severe mental illnesses in action. Each program presenter has been through training to develop the skills to translate the story of his or her own recovery into truths and insights that will resonate with the audience. We put a human face to mental illnesses and change the way people living with these no-fault brain disorders are perceived—one community at a time.

The aim of In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness is to banish the old stereotype with the truth of today. The best way to understand how people with mental illnesses move toward recovery is to learn from those who have been there, to hear about their struggles, and how they have managed to cope. You gain wisdom from men and women with a disability that no longer defines them as they walk the road back to purposeful lives in their communities.

In Our Own Voice Presentations are made year round to various organizations, businesses, care facilities, churches, etc.
